Camouflage Nails... Green and Brown

I wanted to do a camouflage manicure for a while now...I have a long list of "manicures to do" list and this has been on it for a while. There are times I look at my nails and think these just look like blobs of color and there are times I look at my nails and think, yeah...this looks like camouflage. All and all, I guess that is what camo really is...random blobs of color that run more in a horizontal pattern. So here is my first attempt at a camo mani.

There are so many different color combos of camo prints out there...blue tones, pink tones, black tone, green tone, green and brown, etc. I went with the green and brown colors for this one, but  I really want to do a pink camo next. That will be my next stab at doing a camo mani.

I am on the fence about the top coat being so shiny. Though I am not so big on doing the matte top coat, I think it may be more appropriate for this manicure. The shine on the camo design just looks a little off. I think I have to go buy a matte top coat for my next attempt at this.

Any ideas of a good matte coat out there? I know nothing about them.

For this manicure I applied the following:
  • Sache Clear Base Coat
  • China Glaze in Kalahari Kiss...1 coat
  • Loreal in Safari Chic...camo markings
  • Milani in Teddy Brown...camo markings
  • Sally Hansen in Black Heart...camo markings
  • Out the Door...1 coat

  1. What a coincidence, I was thinking last night I might attempt a camouflage mani, inspired by my bottle of Kalahari Kiss. Wouldn't really know where to start with it though. This looks lovely though :) I personally feel nails should always be as shiny as humanly possible :D even if that means you can't always see the design lol. I picked up the Rimmel Pro Matte Top Coat a few months ago because I wanted to try out matte and glossy stripes. I imagine you could get better ones for more money, but that one seemed good enough to me :) I don't know if you can get that in the US..?

    1. I just picked up the Kalahari Kiss and I have had the Safari Chic for a while and have been really wanted to use it. As soon as I saw these together I immediately thought...camo time!

I agree 100% about nail should always be as shiny as possible. That is why the matte top coat didn't appeal to me much, but in this mani it just seems to be a bit off.

  2. looks great, even shiny. But I do have to agree with you that it would probably look better with a matte top coat. Unfortunately I have no suggestions for you, since all I have is the shiny seche vite quick dry :)

  3. I love this Kelly! That's a great idea about using a matte top coat, I probably should've done that. It would've been perfect for camo. I've got a matte topcoat that I grabbed at Sally's for $.99. It's China Glaze. It's good, but I just don't think about using it cause I think manis should be shiny too.

    1. Thank you...glad you like it. Good deal...$.99 for this would be good because I know I would not use it that often. Overall I really love shiny nails better. I'll have to look into the China Glaze one...thanks.

  5. I totally call that camo, and with a military husbandguy I should know lol. You did so great on those! Once I found where to buy matte coat (I use NYC brand, it's like $1.99 or $2.99 I don't remember) I have a habit of putting it over at least one finger before taking whatever mani it is off. Sometimes it looks nice so I do the rest and leave it.

    1. Thanks! Gland you like. Not a bad price. I will get one if they are a couple bucks. I could justify paying too much for it cause I know I won't use it too much.
